It's the time of year when only mulled wine will do...THE drink that embodies the taste and smell of Christmas...

We've put together an unpckd Mulled Wine Kit comprising of a Mulled Wine Spice Mix and a Tea Basket.

If the red wine version is not for you or you fancy experimenting, try these alternative recipes for a different take on this favourite festive tipple…

White mulled wine

Ingredients (Serves 6)

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 25g honey
  • 175g sugar
  • 12 tsps mulled wine spice mix
  • 150ml water
  • 1 bottle white wine


  1. Cut the lemons and oranges into thin quarter slices and add to a pan
  2. Add in the honey, sugar and mulled wine spice in tea basket
  3. Heat all the ingredients on the stove until they begin to lightly caramelise, then add the water.
  4. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes, add the wine to the pan, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes before serving.

Apple Mulled Cider

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 1/2 tbsp caster sugar
  • 4 tsps mulled wine spice mix
  • 440 ml apple cider


  1. Add all the ingredients to a large saucepan, and bring to a gentle simmer.
  2. Cook for at least 5 minutes over a low heat

Hot Mulled Sloe

Served in a teapot, the festive spice and warm cloudy apple juice gently mulls away before it is combined with the red berried and fruit cake notes of the Sipsmith Vintage Sloe Gin – the perfect sharer for winter.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

  • 100ml Sipsmith Sloe Gin
  • 200ml Warm Cloudy Apple Juice
  • 4 tsps mulled wine spice mix


  1. Add Warm Cloudy Apple Juice to the tea pot
  2. Fill the tea basket with mulling spices and allow to infuse.
  3. Serve the sloe gin in a bottle on the side and mix with the mulled apple juice in the tea cup.

Mulled Wine Tea (non-alcoholic)

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 4 cups water
  • 8 tsp mulled wine spice mix
  • 4 tsp black leaf tea
    • Tea bags work fine
    • Use rooibos tea for a caffeine free version


  1. Bring water to the boil.
  2. Add the spice mix in tea basket to a tea pot or to the pan. Pour water over the leave to simmer (or simmer on a low heat) for 10 minutes. If leaving in a teapot, place the lid on to keep the heat.
  3. Add the black tea and leave to infuse for another 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you want it.
  4. Strain the tea.
  5. Add some sweetener such as brown sugar, honey or maple syrup if you wish.

Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 3 cups cranberry or pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 tsp mulled spice mix
  • 1 orange
  • honey to taste (optional)


  1. Pour the liquids into a non-reactive saucepan. Add all the spices and start warming it up over medium heat.
  2. Cut off the outer layer of the orange skin of 1/2 of the orange. Make sure to only cut the orange part and not the white pith. Press out the juice from the whole orange.
  3. Add the orange peel to the saucepan. Strain the orange juice through are mesh strainer and add it to the saucepan as well.
  4. Keep warming up the mixture until it starts steaming and small bubbles start rising to the top. Reduce heat and keep heating it for another 5 minutes. Make sure that it doesn't boil.
  5. Turn off the heat. Add the honey to taste. Cover the saucepan and let it sit for about 45 minutes.
  6. Reheat before serving if needed.
